Citizens should actively participate in the transition of cities and local communities to renewable energy. That is why the empowerment of citizens to invest in and use solar energy is an integral part of the Good Energy — SEET project.
In addition to renewable energy, good energy implies community energy — energy owned and/or co-owned the benefits of which are enjoyed by the citizens. The Good Energy — SEET project contributes to the energy independence of cities and local communities by encouraging citizens to participate in the energy transition. Using solar energy through our own solar PV systems and investing in renewable energy sources through energy communities are some of the possibilities for active participation in the electricity market.
Within the Croatian legal framework, citizens can be the owners of their own solar PV system within the self-supply facility user model, which encourages households to meet their own electricity needs using the solar PV system. The second model is the customer model with its own production, for owners of larger solar PV systems who want to produce energy for the electricity market. Citizens can also connect into a group of active customers. A group of active customers is when at least two consumers cooperate and share the produced electricity from a solar PV system located on a shared building, such as a residential building.
Citizens can collaborate through energy communities, which, within the Croatian legal framework, are legal entities the organization of which is based on a voluntary and open participation and is under the control of members or share owners, who can be individuals, public bodies, small businesses, etc. The purpose of such communities must be to provide environmental, economic or social benefits to their members, shareholders or the local areas in which they operate, and not to generate financial profit. Energy communities can participate in almost all the activities related to the production and use of electricity. Citizens can also establish communities of renewable energy sources that deal with the development and local use of renewable energy sources.
Learn more about community energy
With the Good Energy — SEET project, we bring to your city the opportunities to learn about investing in and using solar energy in your home and your local community.
The Good Energy — SEET project will establish Good Energy Locations as part of the new solar-powered public facilities. At these locations, citizens will be able to take part in educational activities about solar and community energy. The Good Energy Locations will be an opportunity to learn how to participate in the energy transition and development of a green Europe.
The Good Energy — SEET project also addresses the need for capacity development to further enable the transition to renewable energy. As part of the project, we will hold training sessions for installers and other technical professionals to upgrade their skills for solar installations. This will contribute to the popularization of the PV installer profession among students of technical vocational schools in the partner cities.
