In the past nine years, the City of Poreč has implemented more than 40 projects in the area of sustainable development.

The City of Poreč (Parenzo) has long recognized sustainable development as an imperative of the 21st century. Following the vision of Poreč as an energy-conscious European city and by becoming a signatory to the Covenant of Mayors in 2012, numerous actions to address climate change were undertaken. In 2013, Poreč created the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) for the period from 2013 to 2020, committing to reduce CO2 emissions in its area by 20%. As early as in 2016, Poreč became a signatory to the New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, committing to the implementation of measures and activities that will result in reductions in CO2 emissions of 40%, as well as the implementation of measures to adapt and increase resistance to climate change. At the same time, it created the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) and the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for the period from 2020 to 2030.

The long-term dedication of the City of Poreč to the transition to renewable energy is evidenced by its Sunny Power System project. As part of this project, solar power systems for electricity and thermal energy were installed at eight public buildings (schools, kindergartens, sports halls, etc.), with a total nominal power of 100 kW. To date, Poreč’s solar power systems record 1,070,000 kWh of produced “green” electricity.

As part of the Smart Cities in the Republic of Croatia conference, the City of Poreč received the Smart City award in the Smarter Energy and Environment category two years in a row, in 2017 and 2018, while Greenpeace mentions it as the most proactive city on the Adriatic coast.

The Good Energy — SEET project includes the installation of a solar PV system with a nominal power of 55 kW on the roof of this building.

In addition to the eight existing solar power systems installed on public buildings from 2015, this will be the ninth solar power system, which will bring the total installed capacity of solar power systems in the area of the City of Poreč to 155 kW.
